Remarkable Home with a View of the Golden Gate Bridge in California

Here is a home whose location dazzles the mind. Situated on a steeply sloped terrain and surrounded by lush vegetation, this home is both spectacular and secluded. The Belvedere Residence was designed by Gwathmey Siegel& Associates Architects and overlooks the San Francisco Bay, having an unobstructed panoramic perspective all the way to the Golden gate Bridge. The first noticeable unusual feature of the building is its vertical construction, making the views of its upper floors truly remarkable. Here is more on the home’s architecture: “A barrel-vaulted ceiling articulates the living and dining spaces at the topmost level of the main house, and a large deck projects towards the bay to extend the space into the landscape.

Other, smaller projections from the house’s main volume towards the bay provide more intimate spaces for dining or leisure, producing a façade which can be read as a hierarchy of varying degrees of enclosure within the tripartite structural scheme. Bedrooms, a study and a two-story play area occupy the intermediate floors, while a gym of the lowest level offers close proximity to an outdoor terrace with lap pool, whose “infinity edge” of water establishes a poetic connection to the bay beyond.” Photos by Mark Schwartz.

Gardening Question of the Week: Winter Care for Trees in Containers

I received several emails with concerns about what kind of care container trees require, to get them through the winter. Some of the emails were from folks in apartments and their potted trees were also exposed to high winds; a double whammy.

Over-wintering containers takes some experimentation. There are several things to take into account, when growing trees in containers, no matter where you live. First, choose a tree suited to your growing conditions, whether it is sunny, shady, wet or dry. Make sure the tree is hardy to a couple of zones below your USDA hardiness rating. That way it should be able to handle winter temperatures, even though it is above the frost line.

Some less obvious problems include how much to water and too much winter sun. Strong southern exposure sunlight can cause trunks and branches to freeze, thaw and eventually crack, during winter. As for watering, most trees will be dormant during cold winters, so they will need less water. Don't leave them dry for weeks at a time, but do not let them sit in wet soil, or the roots will rot.
Assuming your tree is hardy enough to be outdoors, the biggest consideration will be wind burn and desiccation. You can use burlap to shield the tree, but only consider this in extreme cases. Trees need sunlight, even in winter. If you do need to wrap the tree, don't let the burlap touch the branches and freeze to them. Use some sort of framing to keep a few inches between tree and fabric. A better idea would be to group several plants together and move them to a less windy location for the winter. There are also some good anti-desiccation sprays on the market.

If you are growing several trees as a privacy screen and you won't be able to do much protecting, take extra care in choosing rugged trees, like yew, juniper and viburnum.

And if you've had good luck overwintering a potted tree outdoors, let us know your tips for survival.

Modern Bedroom Furniture Designs

Modern Bedroom Furniture DesignsThe term “modern bedroom” does not refer to the physical “age” of the room itself. Rather, a “modern bedroom” is one decorated in a manner that parallels modern design values. Generally, this means that for your furnishings to be considered modern bedroom furniture, they have to be indicative of a characteristically modern minimalist aesthetic. To put it simply: For a modern bedroom, less is more. To achieve a truly modern look, you will first need to de-clutter your bedroom.

“The Villa” from Studio Daniel Libeskind

This is what  “twisted architecture” should actually be about: great looking buildings with completely unexpected angles and creative approaches. “The Villa” comes from Studio Daniel Libeskind, a company with offices in USA as well as in Europe. Here are some words from the architects’ website concerning this project: ” The Villa creates a new dialogue between contemporary living and a completely new experience of space. Built from premium materials, this German-made, sculptural living space meets the highest standards in design, craftsmanship and sustainability. It is unique at every turn, offering maximum insulation and durability, cutting-edge technologies and compliance with some of the toughest energy-saving standards across the world”. So not only an impressive design, but also a sustainable living space built from last minute technologies.

Modular House in Madrid, Spain by A-cero architecture Studio

Modular House in Madrid Spain by A cero architecture Studio
Directed by Joaquin Torres, the first luxury modular houses that located in Madrid, Spain, was finished by A-cero architecture Studio, introducing a modular architecture product based on the principles of the Industrialized Construction. It applies the same ‘production line’ standardisation procedures to the construction, modularity, technology, quality control and time spaces that are applied to other many fields of human activity. The Modular House benefits from the speed and cost advantages of assembly line production. Producing in-factory and assembling on-plot means that within just 3 months a house design can be enjoyed after signing. More specialized labour can increase productivity and quality as well as reducing the costs.
A-cero plan to roll out the offering of bespoke modular houses offering decoration as equipping as an extra service, in the same way you would receive a boat. Example prices are divulged as 69,000€ for an 82 sq m house as standard, or fully decorated and equipped for 85,000€. Joaquin Torres A-cero architecture Studio also advised that this system need not be exclusive for residential construction – schools, offices, retirement homes or student residences could also benefit from this modular buildings technique
The project is unique from the typical prefabricated house in offering luxury but distinct from Daniel Libeskind’s recently revealed luxurious prefab (Libeskind Villa, the German-made Future House) in offering luxury at an affordable price, not simply for the economic elite.

Homes Sent by Our Readers: Private Residence in USA

We received these pictures not too long ago from Conor Musgave, one of our readers. This house is located in Port Madison Bay, Bainbridge Island, WA. We like the peace and comfort inspired by the exterior as well as its “green” location. But above all, we like to see homes with an impressive interior design sent by our readers. This particular residence can be characterized by airy arrangements and plenty of functionality. Large windows are present all around, increasing the feeling of space and allowing natural light to “flood” the rooms. There is a subtle use of color that manages to sensitize the whole place. More information on this home can be found on Bainbridge Island Coastal Living.

Home Interior

Personal style and freedom of expression are driving forces in today's home design. Decorate means to beautify and is derived from a French word meaning the same. Yet while beautiful, self-expressive homes are wonderful, and architects have a growing responsibility to create healthy, accessible, and environmentally sensitive spaces. Home decor is a pretty broad category, consequently, the best way to refer to home decor is to give some examples of the items that constitute home décor. How these address these issues will transform how tomorrow's homes look and function. When decorating a room, there are many things to think about. Space planning, lighting, furniture, and window treatments are just a few. You'll find interesting information here about how to incorporate all of the elements of décor into your decorating project and use them to the best advantage for your space. The décor refers to different kids of patterns of design like formal décor, contemporary décor, traditional décor and modern décor.

How Do You Feel About Indoor Stone Walls ?

You’ve seen a lot of posts lately here on Freshome that relate to the idea of stone as a building material. Today we will take this concept and mess around with it a bit. How do you feel about stone walls? W found some interesting interiors that in our opinion look stunning and also very original. It is true, having stone walls can usually lead to a cold environment, but what if one could “customize” them a little in order to create a warm and homey place? For example the stone walls could surround a fireplace or have embedded shelves for picture frames or books. A single stone wall is enough to make an interior stand out, but the more the merrier. Just be careful in order to maintain the desired atmosphere!

Best lighting design on unique shape

Here are several best lighting design on unique shape, on first lighting, we can see a wall lamp with red color.
This wall lamp is beautiful in its simplicity. At just a fraction of the cost of the losing Tears chandelier, the Tango Wall’s wavy design is aesthetically pleasing without taking over the room. While pictured here on a wood panel wall, the Tango could easily enhance a room of almost any style.
One of several unique lighting design, used for Billiard Table, designed by Yellowgoat, It loooks like a spiral style on it's lighting design. Notice how the clever multi-tiered design uses the fading of the light itself to contrast between the far and near sections of the lamp.

beautiful furnishing home design

home designs, home designs interior
  • The trend in urban society today wants to have a home that is practical and multifunctional, but still nice place to live. Not surprisingly, the minimalist style so often loved the tiny houses have remained seabrek function. Some people say Living in the box, maybe that's appropriate expression.
  • However, the KEY in IDEAL house there is only basic functions of the house. Now the little house does not necessarily mean rigid, stuffy, and narrow. In fact, small houses can be arranged with the appropriate interior comfort and impressed that area. Although only a limited land you should be mensiasati spaces narrow to meet the needs of the family desired. And find solutions to a memorable impression of a narrow area.
  • Now the limited space is no longer relevant as an excuse to have a small house. Limited land, especially in major cities, demanding people to save money in setting up the house. It takes special tricks when arranging the interior of the tiny house. Starting from the wall color selection to display in space. The owner challenged to create comfort in occupancy, although collided with the problem area of limited size. But you do not get discouraged quickly because of the spatial layout, color selection and the selection of appropriate furniture can mensiasati rooms look a little more widely and stay beautiful.
